Riverside is a city in Riverside County, California, located in an area commonly referred to as the Inland Empire. Riverside is the most populated city in the Inland Empire, with a 2012 census estimate of over 300,000 people. Situated about 55 miles east of Los Angeles, it is a part of the Greater Los Angeles area. The city is the 11th most populated city in the state of California. Riverside was founded in the late 1860s and is considered the birthplace of the citrus industry in California. The University of California, Riverside, hosts the Riverside Sports Complex. Other popular attractions in Riverside include the Riverside Metropolitan Museum, which houses exhibits and artifacts of local history, the Fox Performing Arts Center, and the California Citrus State Historic Park.
